A new team has joined the line up for the Afghan Appeal Fund Day of Cricket at Burton’s Court in June. The Army Wanderers XI hope to snatch the cup from 2012 winners Eton College when they take part in this year’s match. Team captain Lt Col Matt Bazeley said “the Army Wanderers Team are really looking forward to joining the Afghan Appeal Fund Day of Cricket in what I am sure will be a great day of enjoyable sport in aid of a quite outstanding cause with which the Army personnel have a real connection”.
The other two teams taking part are longstanding competitors in this tournament – Freshfields Bruckhaus Derringer, and the Afghan Appeal Fund XI themselves who in 2012 also toured Pakistan – the first international team to do so since the attack on the Sri Lankan team three years previously.
It promises to be a great day out with hopefully a good dose of sunshine. The charity hope to raise £10,000 from the event to go towards their school projects in Afghanistan. All are welcome and tickets can be purchased in advance at £15 a head including lunch.
