School in Wardak

Afghan Appeal Fund: school buildThe Afghan Appeal Fund has funded a 6 classroom annexe to a primary school in the Wardak area, having raised the necessary £31,000. The foundations, outer walls and roof were built in 2007.  Final touches and the insatallation of equipment were carried out in 2008.

As well as the classrooms, the annexe also includes water wells for safe drinking water, latrines, 2 administration offices, a store (See VIDEO) and all the related school equipment: tables; benches; books; desks; chairs.

Unfortunately, the security situation in the Wardak province deteriorated at the end of last year, and due to continued threats from the Taliban, the local community has decided to close the school.  Negotiations are continuing with the Taliban to attempt to allow the school to re-open.
