The Afghan Appeal Fund (AAF) is run on a voluntary basis by families of British soldiers and aims to raise awareness of the plight of the people of Afghanistan, particularly the children, and raise money to help them, primarily through education.
The charity has gone from strength to strength, and we have embarked on five more school projects in Afghanistan in 2011/2012. This follows on from the five schools already funded since 2006 in Helmand, Wardak, Bamyan, Nuristan and Kabul which are supporting around 6000 children in total.
Educating the children of Afghanistan helps to promote peace and stability, particularly in the more remote regions – it is key to the hearts and minds campaign and to the rebuilding of the country. Afghanistan has been destroyed by successive wars, and education is the first step towards a brighter future.
